Southern Railway has invited online applications from eligible candidates for engagement of Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961, vide Notification No. 01/2026. Training will be imparted in designated trades at various Divisions, Workshops and Units under Southern Railway.
The Southern Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2026 is for 4,471 Fresher and Ex-ITI posts. Online registration opened on 28th August 2026 and will close on 27th September 2026 (17:00 hrs). Age is reckoned as on the date of notification. Upper age relaxation: OBC (NCL) – 3 years, SC/ST – 5 years, PwBD – 10 years (13 years for PwBD+OBC and 15 years for PwBD+SC/ST). Training period is 2 years for Fresher Fitter/Painter, 1 year 3 months for Welder and MLT, and as per Apprentices Rules rebate for Ex-ITI candidates.
There is no written exam. Engagement will be based on a merit list and document verification:

Fresher: 10th marks converted to 200 (minimum 50% in Matriculation)

Ex-ITI: 10th marks (100) + ITI marks (100) = 200, with equal weightage

MLT: 12th (PCB) marks converted to 200 (minimum 50% in Matriculation)

- Fresher (12th standard / MLT) and Ex-ITI: ₹9,600 per month
- Application Fee: ₹100 for General / OBC / EWS; Nil for SC / ST / PwBD and all female candidates. Payment is online only.

Eligible candidates living in the notified Southern Railway jurisdiction must apply online only through the official portal. No other mode of application will be accepted.
- Step 1: Open the apply-online link and complete new registration with a valid mobile number and email ID.
- Step 2: Fill personal, educational and trade details carefully. Select the correct Fresher / Ex-ITI / MLT category.
- Step 3: Upload photograph, signature and required certificates as specified in the notification.
- Step 4: Pay the application fee online, if applicable (SC/ST/PwBD and all female candidates are exempted).
- Step 5: Submit the form before 27 September 2026, 17:00 hrs and take a printout for document verification.
4,471 Act Apprentice posts (143 Fresher trades, 20 MLT and 4,308 Ex-ITI).
Minimum 15 years. Maximum 22 years for Freshers and 24 years for Ex-ITI and MLT, as on the date of notification, plus category-wise relaxation.
₹8,200 per month for 10th-pass Freshers and ₹9,600 per month for 12th-pass Freshers / MLT and Ex-ITI candidates.
Merit list based on 10th / 12th / ITI marks, followed by Document Verification. There is no written examination.
Only residents of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Nellore, Chittoor and Dakshina Kannada who meet the 10th/12th/ITI norms.
